You ve probably seen Jenny Holzer s text-based work (think Live Laugh Love for people who like Twin Peaks) projected onto the Louvre or carved into marble skateboards. She s dabbled in condoms before, too. In her 2018 ARTIST ROOMS installation at the Tate Modern, she exhibited condom wrappers bearing her famous truism, “Men Don’t Protect You Anymore.”

.-Fergus McCaffrey St. Barth is presenting Barbarian Days on view until June 1, 2021 at the gallerys St. Barth location, exhibiting works by: Rachelle Dang, Koji Enokura, Herbie Fletcher, Francesca Gabbiani, Katharina Grosse, Julio Le Parc, Robert Levine, Robert Longo, Ari Marcopoulos, Catherine Opie, Joni Sternbach, and Lawrence Weiner.
Taking as its inspiration from the autobiography Barbarian Days: A Surfing Life, the 2016 Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir of New Yorker writer, William Finnegan, this unruly exhibition celebrates historic and contemporary artists who consider the ocean as a vehicle for an enriching and daunting personal psychosomatic investigation into creative catharsis. Presented at Fergus McCaffrey St. Barth, the gallerys intimate venue on the wild side of the island at Grand Fond, the exhibition is acoustically augmented by the nearby rush of crashing waves and reverberating

Free and open to all via Zoom Join the Milwaukee Art Museum’s Contemporary Art Society for a virtual conversation with German artist Katharina Grosse and Margaret Andera, interim chief curator and curator of contemporary art.
Untitled (2019) by Grosse was recently acquired for the Museum’s collection, with support from the Contemporary Art Society. The painting is not only the first work by the artist to enter the collection but also the first by a female artist in the Museum’s collection of contemporary German paintings.

Grosse is known for her brightly colored acrylic paintings and installations, explorations of color density and temperature, and the interplay between color and light. Grosse has exhibited internationally, and her work is in major museum collections, including at the Museum of Modern Art, in New York.
Alongside a miniature spray-painted sculpture by Katharina Grosse, a face mask designed by Tania Bruguera, and a scratch card by Nico Vascellari,
M.M.S.#1 also features a vinyl featuring audio works and a piano score by Martin Creed. The record features two tracks by the Turner Prize-winning artist and composer: “One Minute On A Piano, Work No. 3482” and new work, “Becoming One, Work No. 3483”.
The art box will also contain a series of ‘alter breads’ by Alexander Tovborg. These wafers, which represent the Holy Communion in Christianity, are produced at Ostificio Domus, a specialist altar bread bakery in southern Italy and they feature Tovborg’s original drawings of the Madonna and child printed onto their surface. The Danish artist has chosen to represent the baby as a girl, creating the possibility of “a new kind of communion, where women are represented as both holy and the givers of new life and beginnings”.
