So far, though, Gov. Ron DeSantis has taken a longer view of the disaster. He said it was important to review eventual findings by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, part of the U.S. Commerce Department, before recommending next steps.
He recently reiterated that position, according to media reports.
Any state push for requirements for condo inspections would come during the 2022 legislative session that begins in January and would likely not take effect until July 2022.
Arroyo told the Herald-Tribune he plans to get ahead of whatever happens at the state level and look into the possibility of tailoring a local law to the specific needs of Sarasota.

On Friday, the condominium manager submitted a recertification report in which an engineer deemed the 156-unit building was structurally and electrically unsafe, according to a city press release.
The recertification report documented cracks and corrosion in the building’s structure and noted that repairs would be required to shore up the building’s concrete frame.

Inspectors have deemed Condo units in a Kissimmee complex unsafe after finding several walkways at risk of collapsing. The news comes one week after the condo collapse in Surfside, Florida, which left at least 18 dead and 145 missing.
According to Osceola County spokesperson Chris Brumbaugh, 72 condos at the Images Condominiums have been deemed unsafe following an inspection, which found that “walkways are in danger of collapse and could represent a threat to the safety of the public”:

A week after the deadly collapse of a Miami-Beach area condo building, another condominium complex in Florida has been deemed unsafe and at risk of collapsing, forcing residents to relocate.
Authorities at Osceola County recently conducted an inspection of the Images Condominiums in Kissimmee City, Florida. The inspection found that at least 72 units located in three of the site’s 11 buildings were unsafe to live in. Officials also found that the condominium’s walkways and breezeways are at risk of collapsing, NBC News reported.
