WT Distinguished Lecture Series to examine rise of modern conservatism through literary lens

CANYON An upcoming West Texas A&M University lecture will explore how post-World War II American literature can offer insights into today’s political environment.
Dr. Bryan M. Santin, assistant professor of English at Concordia University Irvine, will present “Postwar American Fiction and the Rise of Modern Conservatism: The Meaning of Ralph Ellison’s (Near) Invisibility on the Right” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, via Zoom.
The discussion is part of WT’s Distinguished Lecture Series and hosted by the University’s Department of English, Philosophy, and Modern Languages and Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice.

County 4-H educator receives national award

When Heather VonDielingen found out last spring she had won an award, she was completely surprised.
The Purdue Extension Jackson County 4-H youth development educator received an Achievement in Service Award from the National Association of Extension 4-H Youth Development professionals (NAE4-HYDP).
“I was humbled to receive this award, and it was very special coming from my Indiana 4-H extension educator colleagues,” VonDielingen said. “To be honest, when I found out I received the award last spring, I had to ask another 4-H educator how I received it.”
