Amazon’s Alexa is one of the main competitors to Google’s Assistant. At CES this year, Amazon and Lenovo announced their partnership in which they unveiled Show Mode for select Lenovo PCs. This feature basically turns the computer into a larger-than-life Echo Show.

Based on a blog post from Amazon, Show Mode will bring a mostly full Echo Show experience to a handful of Lenovo laptops. These include Yoga, ThinkPad, and IdeaPad devices. They haven’t specified exactly which models will come with the feature, but they did indicate that it will only be for those running Windows 10. During CES, Lenovo showed off the feature using a Yoga Slim 9i.

Select Lenovo laptops can now use Show Mode to turn Alexa into an Echo Show-like device. Amazon calls Show Mode a voice-first, interactive Alexa experience for PCs. Show Mode is only available on select Lenovo Yoga, IdeaPad, and ThinkPad laptops, so you can t just download it for any PC.
With Show Mode, you can use the Alexa app to read trending news stories, listen to music, set timers, and do any of the thousands of commands you d expect from an Alexa device. To activate it, you just need to say Alexa, open Show Mode on a supported device. You can also click the Show Mode button within the Alexa app.
Amazon today announced that it is rolling out ‘Show Mode’ for the Alexa app on select Lenovo laptops. The feature was first unveiled earlier this year for PCs and aims to make these laptops “Echo Show-like” devices, bringing a bunch of Alexa features and skills accessed by simple voice commands. The company says that Show Mode is a “voice-first, interactive Alexa experience for PCs”.
Show Mode can be enabled by using a simple voice command asking the assistant to open the feature or by clicking on the ‘Show Mode’ icon in the Alexa app. The app then takes over the screen and displays information relevant to the user – just like on the Echo Show –, including calendar appointments, the weather, and more. Users can then use the device just like an Alexa-powered smart display, performing actions such as requesting weather information, creating to-do lists, playing music on Amazon Music, and controlling smart home devices.
