The Last of Us PS5 remake tipped as Days Gone 2 gets the cold shoulder

It may not be long before we see Sony and Naughty Dog release a remake of
The Last of Us for PlayStation 5, as a new report today claims that such a game is currently in development at the studio. That new report also tells us whether or not
Days Gone will get a sequel and gives us a look inside a fairly risk-averse Sony that is prioritizing blockbusters from its most successful studios while apparently turning away from smaller, unproven projects from other teams.
The Last of Us Remake Reportedly in the Works for PlayStation 5
A Bloomberg report from Jason Schreier brings forth details about some unrest at PlayStation as it is looking to prioritize its biggest franchises. Visual Arts Service Group is a particular focus in the report. The team had helped complete games designed at Sony studios but wanted to be more creative and lead games, as opposed to always being a support studio.
The team founder, Michael Mumbauer, reportedly began working on a remake of 2013’s
The Last of Us for PlayStation 5 with a development team of 30 he had formed. However, Sony never properly recognized this team within the company and never provided the funding it needed to compete in the industry.
A new report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier claims that a PlayStation 5 remake of 2013’s
Codenamed
T1X, the game was originally being developed by a team within Sony called The Visual Arts Service Group, which was founded in 2007 by Michael Mumbauer. According to the publication, TVAS is the “unsung hero” behind a number of hit PlayStation titles. At one point, it wanted to have more creative control over its projects, and opted to remake
The Last of Us. However, Sony neither acknowledged the team’s existence nor granted it the funding required to complete the project. Instead, T1X was handed over to Naughty Dog.
The Last of Us PS5 Remake Is Apparently in the Works
A Jason Schreier report in Bloomberg reported that a remake of
The Last of Us is in development for the PS5. Work on the project began in 2018 with a group led by Visual Arts Service Group Founder Michael Mumbauer. However, the group that originally worked on it doesn’t exist, following Naughty Dog taking over the game.

In a nutshell: It has been almost eight years since The Last of Us launched on the PlayStation 3. Since then, it has seen a remaster and a sequel on the PS4. Now it will be getting a remake for the PlayStation 5, but not everybody is thrilled.
Insiders say Sony has officially greenlighted a next-gen remake of Naughty Dog s smash hit The Last of Us, codenamed T1X. However, Bloomberg reports that the internal politics of the project has churned up turmoil within Sony studios. Many of the team initially working on T1X have left the company over the move.
