Alexander Zverev produced an impressive display to beat Dominic Thiem in straight sets on Saturday and book his spot in the Madrid Open final, where he will face Matteo Berrettini.
Fifth seed Zverev, who stunned five-time champion Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals on Friday, saw off Thiem 6-3, 6-4 in a repeat of the 2018 final, which was also won by the German. It is going to mean a lot to me (if I can win the final) I am definitely looking forward to it, said the 24-year-old Zverev, bidding to win the title without dropping a set, as he did three years ago.
Thiem battles past Isner to reach semi-finals in Madrid

Dominic Thiem came from a set down to beat John Isner and reach the semi-finals of the Madrid Open on Friday.
The Austrian could face 13-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal in the last four after recovering against Isner to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Nadal plays fifth seed Alexander Zverev in his quarter-final later on Friday.
A showdown between Thiem and Nadal would be a repeat of the 2018 and 2019 French Open finals, both of which were won by Nadal.

Rafael Nadal lost 6-4, 6-4 to Germany s Alexander Zverev in the Madrid Open quarter-finals on Friday, casting doubts over the Spaniard s form ahead of this month s French Open.
Nadal has now fallen early in two clay-court Masters tournaments ahead of the Grand Slam in Paris, after going out in the Monte Carlo quarter-finals last month before winning in Barcelona.
Even in Barcelona, however, Nadal needed to save a championship point to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final.

Zverev stuns Nadal to reach Madrid Open semifinals 2 minutes read
Madrid, May 7 (EFE).- Germany’s Alexander Zverev found some chinks in the armor of five-time champion Rafael Nadal on Friday at the Madrid Open, pulling off a 6-4, 6-4 victory to book a place in that elite clay-court event’s final four.
Although the Spanish all-time great had struggled to an extent with the fast conditions at the Caja Magica in his previous match, he appeared in total control when he broke the sixth-ranked German’s serve for a 4-2 first-set lead.
But the 2018 Madrid Open champion got back on serve thanks to a pair of passing shot winners, took a 5-4 lead when Nadal double faulted and then committed an unforced error on break point, and clinched the set in his first opportunity with some potent serving in Madrid’s thin air.
