Michigan Works has announced it’s opening a new office in Cass County. It says the pandemic has shown that the agency needs to be adaptable, get creative, and adjust the way it does business. The new office inside the Cass County Administration Building in Cassopolis is intended to bring more programs to the area and allow for convenience. Cass County Commissioner Roseann Marchetti says the move is “a natural fit and will allow them to serve more individuals and more businesses located in Cass County.” She adds it couldn’t come at a better time. The new office will open on Monday and be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. Michigan Works Berrien, Cass, Van Buren also has offices in Benton Harbor, Niles, and Paw Paw.

CASSOPOLIS, Mich. A local Republican organization has censured Rep. Fred Upton for a second time this month, after Upton voted with Democrats to strip a controversial GOP representative s committee assignments.
The Cass County GOP voted Tuesday, Feb. 23, to censure Upton, R-St. Joseph, for his decision to vote with Democrats to strip Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Georgia, on her committee assignments. Greene lost her assignments on the House Education and Labor Committee and the House Budget Committee earlier in February following a House vote.
Upton and 10 other Republicans sided with Democrats over Greene s musings about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi being assassinated, the possibility of Jewish-controlled space rays causing wildfires and the taunting of school-shooting survivors.
$363 million has been awarded to telecommunication companies in Michigan the Federal Communications Commission reports (FCC) to improve internet, but some are concerned it doesn’t work.
