Cassia County School District offering full summer school

Updated: 11:41 AM MDT June 11, 2021 BURLEY, Idaho School district officials in Idaho have started offering a full summer school program to catch up all students who may have fallen behind academically during the coronavirus pandemic.  The Times-News reported that the Cassia County School District was prompted to move to a full program to fill the educational gaps caused by the pandemic during remote learning. Cassia County School District spokesperson Debbie Critchfield says that in previous years, the district offered limited summer school to migrant programs or after-school programs.  The Cassia School District estimates the program will cost about $600,000 with $490,000 coming from Republican Gov. Brad Little s learning loss money and $100,000 from federal stimulus funds.

No injuries reported in Burley structure fire Candice Hare © Provided by Twin Falls KMVT Burley Fire Department (KMVT/Jake Manuel Brasil) BURLEY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) At 3:52 a.m., The City of Burley Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire located at 743 Elba Avenue. When crews arrived on the scene, they found heavy smoke emerging from the large, single-story structure. The building had been turned into several small studio apartments, which made the fire difficult to both access and fight. Crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire within one hour of arriving on the scene. KMVT spoke to the City of Burley Fire Department who stated the building was unoccupied at the time of the blaze and that the electricity to the building had been turned off. There was evidence of squatters at the property.

In 2019, authorities arrested Rodriguez on suspicion of murdering Krieger in her Burley, Idaho home. Krieger’s father, Dan Krieger, reported her missing on Feb. 28, 1995, when he discovered she wasn t in her basement bedroom. Mr. Krieger said he last saw her in the family home shortly before going to bed. The man who showed up to a party covered in blood 26 years ago was convicted of her murder last week. Gilberto Rodriguez, 58, was found guilty of murder in the first degree by a jury in Idaho, according to the Cassia County Sheriff’s Office. Krieger officially went missing on Feb. 28, 1995 when her father, Dan Krieger, reported her as such to 911 dispatchers. She was last seen alive just before going to bed at her home in Burley, Idaho. “Dan said there was blood on the bathroom floor, and it looked like something had been dragged up the stairs,” according to court documents obtained by East Idaho News. “There was blood going up the stairs that led to the backyard of the residence.”
