A chink in the PTI armour

One impression that emerges from Prime Minister Imran Khan’s spirited campaign for the holding of the Senate elections through open ballot is that the moral foundations of Pakistan’s politics have further eroded. And this also means that the PTI has not been able to raise – or even maintain – the quality of political behaviour, in a collective sense, during the time that it has been in power at the federal level.
What is truly amazing is that the lawmakers who are seen to be vulnerable to the vile temptation of large sums of money in exchange for their votes mostly belong to the PTI. Imran Khan has himself admitted this risk. Also interesting is the fact that he cites the example of the PTI MPAs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa accepting bundles of currency notes in videos released recently. The timing of this revelation is itself quite revealing.

“Insha Allah Pakistan will emerge victorious,” Imran Khan said while addressing a function after the inauguration of tree plantation drive in Ghazi Barotha under his initiative of 10 Billion Tree Tsunami. Criticising the previous governments, the prime minister said during the last 30 years, big thieves and corrupt politicians had not only hurt the country economically through their loot and plunder of the public resources but destroyed the moral values as well. “They created an impression that corruption is not a bad thing,” he noted.

TAXILA: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said opposition parties after failing on different fronts are now making attempts to “buy” lawmakers of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) to ensure more of their candidates get elected to the upper house of parliament in the upcoming Senate elections.
For the past 30 years, a “market” had been operating for Senate elections, the prime minister claimed while addressing a function after the inauguration of a tree plantation drive under the 10 billion tree tsunami initiative along with Ghazi Barotha water channel in Hazro town of Attock on Friday.
