During a House floor meeting on Wednesday, Ryan used his time to speak about his fellow GOP lawmakers criticizing Capitol physician Brian Monahan’s advice to return to having mask mandates, adding that some lawmakers may be traveling back and forth to Washington, D.C., from hot spots.
“Look, the attending physician of the United States Capitol, the top doctor for Congress, asks us to put on masks when we come to a chamber with 435 people,” Ryan said. “I hate these things. Absolutely. It was terrible having to put this back on. And we do it because the top doctor for all of us asked us to.”

Minutes after McCarthy spoke on the House floor, Ryan delivered some brief remarks exasperatedly saying, “The attending physician of the United States Capitol, the top doctor for Congress, asked us to put on masks when we come to a chamber with 435 people.”
He held up a mask and said he hates wearing them, but they do it “because the top doctor for all of us asked us to.”
“I may not be from a hot spot,” Ryan argued. “Somebody in this chamber is coming from a hot spot! Somebody represents the hot spots! And they get on a plane and they fly here and they interact with all of us. And then we leave here and we go home to our families! Some take care of their sick parents. Some take care of kids who may have an autoimmune disorder. And I just find it absolutely immature and appalling to somehow diminish it to try to score c

The issue of mask guidelines and mandates has become such a hot-button issue that one member of leadership is calling one another names over differing opinions as if this were junior high or high school and not the U.S. House of Representatives.
On Tuesday, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) issued new guidelines about masks when it comes to K-12 teachers, staff, and students wearing masks, regardless of vaccination status. Guidelines also say for certain areas that even those who are vaccinated should wear masks indoors.
As a result, the Capitol Attending Physician Brian P. Monahan announced an immediate mask mandate on the House floor and in buildings. Carson and I have covered some reactions, but perhaps none is more newsworthy than Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) calling House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) such a moron.
