Congressman Jason Crow and humanitarian groups worry that when U.S. troops leave Afghanistan on the Sept. 11 deadline set by Joe Biden, allies in the region will face retribution. They have ramped up pressure on the president’s administration to address a backlog of special visa applications and are predicting a surge that could require evacuations like those in other conflicts a generation ago.
“We re looking at the Guam option, which has been used twice in the history of our country: after Vietnam, and then in the mid-90s with respect to the Kurds,” Crow said.

Almost a hundred people detained at the privately-owned Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Aurora have tested positive for COVID-19.
As of last week, the outbreak included 96 detainees and one employee at the facility owned by the Geo Group, according to a report by Congressman Jason Crow s office. People in detention centers like the one in Aurora have faced an extremely high risk of infection during the pandemic. Conditions at Geo and the manner we treat individuals detained there not only reflect our community values but impact our public health, Crow said in a statement. Infectious disease outbreaks affect our community as a whole and we will continue to demand transparency and accountability.

A battle over the filibuster is building in Washington as major issues like the Biden administration s $2 trillion infrastructure proposal and the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act are running into roadblocks. Democrats are proposing to eliminate the filibuster altogether.
Colorado Congressman Jason Crow joins us to discuss why he signed the letter urging the end of the filibuster.
We applaud ICE for providing access to a vaccine that will at least bring some relief when people are stripped of their liberties so they don t have to fear they re going to be stripped of their lives, says Laura Lunn, a lawyer who represents ICE detainees in Colorado through the Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network.
The Aurora facility, which is run by the private prison company GEO Group through a contract with ICE, was the site of an extended outbreak among ICE detainees in the fall of 2020. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the facility also dealt with outbreaks of other infectious diseases, including mumps and chicken pox.
