The Congress in Maharashtra on Saturday accused the Centre of short-changing the Maharashtra government by withholding its rightful dues to tide over the COVID-19 pandemic and other disasters like cyclones and heavy rains that had hit the state last year. State Congress president Nana Patole also accused the BJP of acting irresponsibly amidst the pandemic, a day after Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis said that Maharashtra was the only state in the country that didn t provide any assistance to the people during the crisis. In his Facebook address on Friday night, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had referred to the stringent measures adopted by various countries to check the spread of coronavirus. He had also hinted that a lockdown was inevitable if new cases continue to go up.
Following a controversy over a polling team in Assam carrying an EVM in the vehicle belonging to the wife of a BJP candidate, the Congress on Saturday held a protest against the incident and alleged that the ruling party in the state is indulging in electoral manipulation. Amid slogan-shouting by the party workers, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Ripun Bora urged the Election Commission to take strict action against the BJP leaders who carry out illegal activities that hamper the polling process. The protest rally was not allowed to move forward on the busy arterial G S Road and stopped at the gate of the state Congress headquarters Rajiv Bhawan .
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday said that university campuses, in the last few years, have no longer remained inclusive spaces that safeguard freedom of expression and individual liberties, and stressed on the need to replace narrow-minded identities with a willingness to embrace differences. Initiating the discussion on demands for grants of the Education Ministry in Lok Sabha, he said the budget for the ministry is characterised by a bizarre series of cuts and any hope for positive development in the country s primary and higher education ecosystem has been effectively handicapped by the allocations. Tharoor also pointed out that the pandemic has exposed a serious digital divide and he cited instances of students taking their own lives due to lack of access to smartphones when classes moved online. He also pitched for having a national computer curriculum.

PC Chacko resigns from Congress Latest News: PC Chacko left Congress alleging that he was being neglected by the party.
The Congress on Wednesday suffered a big setback in Kerala just ahead of Assembly elections as senior leader PC Chacko resigned from the party. Chacko left Congress alleging that he was being neglected.Â
Chacko reportedly handed over his resignation letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi. There is no Congress in Kerala. The party has been divided into two sections in the state, Chacko told reporters.
He also alleged that the Assembly seats for the upcoming elections were being squandered among the two sections of the party.Â
