A new hospital has opened in Monett to serve the wider public in Barry and Lawrence counties.
The new CoxHealth hospital is on the east side of Monett along highway 60. It replaces the old facility built in 1953.
The hospital will provide services such as emergency care, radiology, labor and delivery, surgery, and more.

Anticipation, dedication and a lot of hard work have officially accomplished an effort years in the making: The new Cox Monett Hospital, which opened Jan. 22 at 6 p.m.
A Harrison man was killed after jumping from his vehicle on Sunday afternoon, when his brakes failed. According to the Arkansas State Police, 40-year-old Travis Flippo was pronounced dead at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield.
The Harrison Police Department reports Flippo was traveling on Younes Drive in Harrison. He was reportedly attempting to reduce his speed and realizing his brakes were failing. Flippo jumped out of his vehicle, resulting in injuries he would later succumb to. His vehicle continued, striking two trees and two fence t-posts.
The road was dry, and the weather was clear at the time of the 2:25 p.m. accident.
The ultra-cold freezers sat waiting. Staff who had prepared to administer doses were standing by.
Instead, the hospital was told by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Friday that it would not receive any vaccine this week as expected. Clay County’s other major medical center, North Kansas City Hospital, hadn’t received any doses yet either.
Hospital staff expressed frustration that frontline workers would now have to wait even longer for a vaccine that they hoped would usher in the beginning of the end to a 10-month pandemic that has been unlike anything they have ever experienced.
A Gainesville teen was injured Saturday morning in a one-vehicle accident in Ozark County. Nineteen-year-old Austin Richardson was transported by air ambulance to Cox Medical Center South in Springfield with what were described as serious injuries.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Richardson was traveling on U.S. Highway 160 nearly 8 miles east of Gainesville when his pickup truck crossed the center line. He overcorrected, and his truck traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck an embankment and overturned.
Richardson’s truck was totaled in the 11:40 a.m. accident.
