Second Harvest Food Bank will host a community-wide food drive this April to raise awareness for senior food insecurity and hunger.
April is Senior Hunger Awareness Month, and Second Harvest says that 23 percent of seniors in Louisiana, about one-in-four, face the threat of hunger.
âMany seniors live on a fixed income. They skip meals or choose between buying groceries or paying their rent or utility bills, or even medication,â said Paul Scelfo, Regional Director of Second Harvest Food Bank. âThis can create serious health implications.
Bed Bath & Beyond Closing More Stores, One in Louisiana
After a pretty robust holiday shopping season, we are continuing to see a retail apocalypse across the nation. I m so sad to see this. Not only have I, and members of my family worked in retail for years, but it s so heart wrenching to see stores that I grew up with being shuttered with no hope of coming back. People are losing their jobs at an alarming rate, and if we re being honest, it s not all due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Corporate officials with Bed Bath & Beyond told USA Today that they are expecting to close at least 43 more stores across the US by the end of February 2021. The parent company also operates buybuy Baby and Harmon Face Values. Last year the company stated that they expected to close 200 of their namesake stores over the next two years and that the latest round of brick and mortar stores that are closing are currently holding liquidation sales ahead of the shutdown.
