CLEVELAND, Ohio – Each year the Great American Beer Festival is held in Denver. The competitive, blind-judged competition offers a chance to see how Ohio breweries stack up against the rest of the country. The answer: Very well.
We looked back at a decade of awards won by Northeast Ohio breweries in the competition, from 2011 through 2020. In those years, 17 breweries in Northeast Ohio have garnered 55 medals. Leading the way is Fat Head’s Brewery.
Two Ohio craft breweries collaborated to create a limited beer inspired by Tonyâs Tavernâs fan-favorite âHot Nut,â a mixture of coffee and hazelnut liquor.
Northeast Ohio based brewery The Brew Kettle joined forces with 50 West Brewing Co., a Cincinnati based brewer, to bring to life the âoh You oh Yeah,â a coffee and hazelnut infused imperial stout.
âAfter a bit of back and forth with the crew at 50 West, we realized many of us shared fond collegiate memories from simpler times spent in Athens, OH,â a release from The Brew Kettle said. âLife was a bit smaller, slower, and our responsibilities were far fewer. As we swapped stories, a specific homey bar, Tonyâs, and their infamous Hot Nut struck a chord.â
