A moment of relief, for a few law students with the University of St. Thomas Federal Commutations Clinic, as Gov Tim Walz - along with the Board of Pardons - consisting of Gov. Walz, General Keith Ellison and Chief Justine Lorie Gildea, voted to grant Minnesota s first and absolute pardon in over 35 years to Maria Elizondo. We believe that she deserved the pardon and there was really only one thing in the way and it was the restitution, says Zachary Port.

Walz announces education plan aimed at eliminating disparities The plan covers seven categories, including closing the racial education gap and improving opportunities in rural Minnesota Author: The Governor s Office on Monday announced a sweeping education policy agenda aimed at addressing some of the state s most pressing issues, such as student mental health, diversity within school staff and racial and geographic inequities.  The plan, dubbed Due North, was formed over the past few months with guidance from the Governor s Education Roundtable    a group of 22 professionals in teaching, education policy and school finance, including former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Alan Page and representatives from the statewide teacher s union Education Minnesota and the Minnesota Youth Council. It will be implemented in conjunction with the Minnesota Department of Education s strategic plan.

PAUL, Minn. (KEYC) Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz says the state will open nine community sites this week to vaccinate adults over 65, pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade educators, school staff and child care workers. The program announced Monday expands the rollout beyond the first high-priority group that includes health care workers and long-term care residents and staff, who began receiving doses last month. The announcement comes after the Democratic governor criticized the federal government for uncertainty over the supply of doses. Walz says the state is receiving about 60,000 doses per week and it’s unclear when that supply will increase further.

Tim Walz and the Minnesota Department of Health on Monday will share the state s next steps in its vaccine distribution plan.  According to a news release, MDH Commissioner Jan Malcolm, AAPR Minnesota s state director Will Phillips and HealthPartners CEO and President Andrew Walsh will join the governor on the press call.  The press conference call will be at 2 p.m. Monday.  Monday s news conference comes after the state last week expanded its COVID-19 guidance to urge providers to start vaccinating Minnesotans who are 65 and older following the federal government changing its guidance to say the same. Previously, vaccines in Minnesota were reserved for healthcare workers and long-term care residents.
