Traffic stop in Kern County turns into high-speed chase, shooting involving officer

Investigators say the incident began with a Mojave CHP traffic stop near Tehachapi before 8 pm Friday.
The suspect driving a white trailblazer took off, reaching speeds of up to 100 miles per hour.
Bakersfield CHP officers and Kern County sheriff s air patrol took over and caught up to the suspect in the Pixley area of Tulare County, more than 80 miles away from the initial stop.
When the suspect got out of his car, he showed officers he was armed.
At least one Bakersfield CHP officer opened fire.

Chad Elleabracht, 46, is now in the Tulare County jail.
The incident started when deputies were called out to the 99 Palms Hotel in Tulare just after 7:30 Friday.
The hotel reported issues with the sewage lines on the property and started evacuating residents.
As the investigation began, two sheriff s deputies and a firefighter walked into an open hotel room and came in contact with the dangerous drug.
All three first responders have been released from the hospital.
Authorities say the exposure happened on one of three wings of the hotel and everyone in that wing has been moved to stay somewhere else.

Hospital leaders are being forced to prioritize their limited resources for patients who have already been admitted to the hospital, including those battling COVID-19.
Due to a steep rise in coronavirus admissions and quarantined staff, officials at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno say they ll stop all non-urgent surgeries and procedures by January 1st.
