Williams Lake Council authorizes $500 thousand Airport snowblower purchase

The 38-year-old snowblower at the Williams Lake Airport will be replaced.
According to a report from Manager of Public Works Matt Sutherland, staff have experienced difficulty in finding parts for the aged unit, and replacing it with a new snowblower would allow staff to continue to maintain Airport operation standards.
During Tuesday’s city council meeting, Councillor Scott Nelson said the City had applied for Airports Capital Assistance Program three different times for the snowblower. Funding was denied for the snowblower, but the city says they have budgeted for a snowblower.
City of Williams Lake accepts design for Boitanio Mall housing

The City of Williams Lake has accepted the revised design for 82 apartment units to be built on the second floor of Boitanio Mall.
The design by the Janda Group includes 59 one-bedroom apartments, 20 two-bedroom apartments, and 3 studio apartments, and 164 parking spaces within the existing parkade have been designated for residents. Three changes have been made from the original design:
Incorporation of blue and grey coloured cementitious panels on the building facade per the Downtown DP guidelines of incorporating natural colours.
City of Williams Lake launching public inquiry on prolific offenders

The City of Williams Lake will be launching a public inquiry into the sentencing of prolific offenders.
The City of Williams Lake has been calling for stronger sentencing for prolific offenders released into the community, but the City says the judiciary has failed to take into consideration community safety on releasing public defenders.
Inspector Jeff Pelley of the Williams Lake RCMP has provided the City of Williams Lake with profiles of 3 of 14 prolific offenders in Williams Lake to demonstrate the types and frequency of criminal offenses.
As of 2019, Offender A has been charged with 22 offenses as an adult, and has been convicted of 10 of the listed offenses, and received a stay of proceedings in the remaining 12. Offender A accumulated 87 files as a youth, and 189 files to 2019 as an adult (115 of which were events where the offender was designated a negative role code). Of the 115 events, 14% w
