In Holyoke mayoral race, unannounced candidate William ‘Billy’ Glidden leads in early fundraising

HOLYOKE William “Billy” J. Glidden hasn’t formally announced that he’s running for mayor but his early fundraising receipts bear the hallmarks of a campaign that’s full steam ahead.
A close friend and former aide to Mayor Alex B. Morse, Glidden formed what he describes as exploratory committee in early February. Since recording his first donation on Feb. 5, he’s raised over $13,000 in individual contributions outpacing two candidates that made formal announcements earlier this year, according to a review of filings with the state’s Office of Campaign and Political Finance.

Holyoke City Councilor Gladys Lebron-Martinez will not seek reelection

HOLYOKE Ward 1 City Councilor Gladys Lebron-Martinez will not seek a sixth term.
Lebron-Martinez, who recently battled COVID-19, cited a career change that would interfere with her work on the council.
Often a quiet presence, Lebron-Martinez could speak passionately and forcefully about issues important to her or in defense of a colleague. She entered city politics in 2003, winning a School Committee seat.
The Holyoke city clerk’s webpage does not show any candidates who filed nomination papers for the Ward 1 seat. Lebron-Martinez’s departure will likely draw interest in the coming weeks and months.
