MULBERRY, Fla. About 3,900 people living in parts of Mulberry and Lakeland are under a precautionary boil water notice, according to Polk County Utilities.
The utility company said the notice is in place because of a water main break Wednesday during construction.
The notice affects people living within the Southwest Region Public Water System on Bailey Road and west from Shepherd Road to Highway 60.
Polk County Utilities advises those living in the area to drink bottled water or boil water to a rolling boil for at least one minute for cooking and drinking.
The precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until water sampling analysis is done. The utility company says that usually after 48 hours.
Lee County residents will likely notice a change in the taste, color and odor of water used by customers of Lee County Utilities through May 24.
The temporary change is a result of a conversion in the disinfectant process from chloramines to free chlorine residual now through May 24.
This is a routine measure performed annually to ensure customers of clean, safe potable water.

The boil water notice affects about 450 New Port Richey customers in the following locations:

Pinellas County seasonal reclaimed water restrictions went into effect on Thursday, April 1, and will run through Wednesday, June 30.
Due to supply fluctuation in both the north and south county reclaimed water systems, the restrictions schedule for reclaimed water users will be different for north and south county customers during this period. Enforcement of watering restrictions is currently being intensified to encourage responsible use of reclaimed water.
North county reclaimed water schedule
Effective Thursday, April 1, north county reclaimed water customers may only irrigate two days per week based on property address, according to the schedule below:
