Look out Tiger King, as the municipalities in Hastings County now have some clarity for setting by-laws related to exotic animals. This happened during discussions at Thursday’s meeting of Hastings County Council. Ontario is the only province federally that does not have any required legislation regulating and managing exotic animals.
Municipalities can handle some of this through its Planning Act, but there are still loopholes and lapses that don’t ensure the health and safety of the public or the animals.
Hastings County Planning staff worked with other agencies that are involved with these animals and by-laws, including the Ontario SPCA, as well as World Animal Protection. Reports indicate that based on information and assistance provided by these groups and from reviewing other by-laws, a new template by-law has been prepared.

Brian Stock was given his opportunity, in this space, to present his proposed One Naples development to the community. I have respect for Mr. Stock and his company. He has done many good things. Sadly, One Naples will not be one of them.
Mr. Stock compares his Vanderbilt Beach neighborhood project with the Ritz Carlton and the “luxury condominium towers of Pelican Bay.” He fails to point out that Pelican Bay is a 2,100 acre Planned Development, nearly 400 times larger than his own site, with extensive building setback requirements and more than 500 acres of open space.

The GAA annual congress takes place via video conferencing on Saturday, February 27 due to Covid-19 restrictions.
A total of 48 motions have been drafted, but 10 of those motions will be deferred until a Special Congress.
Motion 1: This motion has been deferred to a Special Congress to be held later this year. It seeks to clarify the role of the Development Officer in counties. It will do this by replacing the title of ‘County Development Officer’ with ‘County Planning and Training Officer’, and also creates the new role of County Safety and Facilities Officer .
