Gateway Oasis breaks ground in Hardeeville

Jasper County Sun Times Hard hats were worn and shovels tossed dirt Friday morning as officials broke ground on a new, upscale RV resort in Hardeeville near Interstate 95 Exit 5.  This is going to be a huge project, a big economic impact on our local economy here, Jasper County Chamber of Commerce president and County Councilman Marty Sauls said.  Representatives from Provident Real Estate Ventures of Minneapolis and Phoenix, along with several local officials, took part in a groundbreaking for Gateway Oasis RV Resort.   It brings another option to our city; it gives us options for our growing workforce, for our residents and for the many tourists that are going to be coming to our new recreation center,” Mayor Harry Williams said.

Travel Oregon awards more than $2 4 million for projects that promote economic recovery across the state

Share this article Share this article PORTLAND, Ore., May 3, 2021 /PRNewswire/  The Oregon Tourism Commission, dba Travel Oregon has awarded $2,408,264.67 through its Competitive & Recovery Grant Program to support economic recovery by investing in projects that enhance and expand the visitor experience and prepare communities and visitors for COVID-19 safe travel. For this grant cycle, Travel Oregon received more than 400 applications with a request greater than $18 million. These projects directly support Oregon s tourism economy, from iconic Oregon attractions like the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, to outdoor trail development, to retrofitting outdoor events to meet public health standards, said Todd Davidson, CEO of Travel Oregon. Many of these entities have been closed or were unable to hold their event in the last year because of Covid. Our goal is to support these businesses, events and attractions as they operate safely, restore vibrancy and create economic stability

Residents Hope Calhoun County Airport Grand Opening Will Lead To More Area Jobs

AVCON, Inc. The Calhoun County Airport is slated to complete its new terminal by mid-May. It will have a pilot’s lounge, conference room, office space, and lobby. Airport Manager Scott Snyder hopes the new digs will attract entrepreneurs to the area. When Hurricane Michael walloped Calhoun County in 2018, it devastated a cornerstone of the community the local agriculture industry. Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kristy Terry says the storm cost that that industry millions of dollars. “The local impact immediately following hurricane Michael was about $24 million just in what was on the ground as far as the timber. So long-term impact I mean the multipliers on that vary but hundreds of millions of dollars without question,” Terry says.
