Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat. Sri Lanka were going along well at 71 for 1, with Kusal Perera going about things in his characteristically carefree manner, but have since then lost four wickets for 13 runs to go to lunch at 84/5.
Newcomer Minod Bhanuka played a careless shot and was out on the stroke of lunch. Kusal Mendis and Dimuth Karunaratne were out for good balls while the same could not be said of the other batters. Sri Lanka needed the top order to settle down and play a long innings to have some hope in this match.
