60 Years of Arizona PBS: A Timeline
Arizona PBS. Channel 8. KAET. A lot of things have changed in our 60 years of broadcasting even our name. As we celebrate our big 60th anniversary this year, we’re reflecting on how we’ve gotten this far, while also planning for ways we can continue to serve our communities in the next 60 years.
KAET was first envisioned in the late 1950s as a way to extend Arizona State University’s resources into local homes, allowing students to take courses via their TV, an idea that feels very prescient in this year of distance learning. In the 1960s version, students watched their lectures on TV, received course materials by mail, and returned their tests the same way.

Carolina honored 25 faculty members and teaching assistants for their accomplishments with 2021 University Teaching Awards.
Given annually, these awards acknowledge the University’s commitment to outstanding teaching and mentoring for graduate and undergraduate students.
“Throughout a challenging year in the midst of a global pandemic, the winners quickly adapted to new ways of teaching. They persevered to maintain their focus on helping students become critical thinkers and problem solvers, while inspiring them to take on the most important challenges facing society,” said Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Robert A. Blouin. “Our award winners are shining examples of the University’s commitment to effective, innovative teaching.”

Now retired, Bourree is well-known as a co-founder of GT Hiring Solutions and Chemistry Consulting Group, which provide employment services to people most in need, and tracking data that helped the tourism industry tell its story through statistics. “Frank is gracious with his time, serving on numerous boards and spending countless hours offering career guidance to people who seek his advice,” said the chamber. The Governors’ Award of Distinction, sponsored by the Times Colonist, is a re-imagining of the Lifetime Achievement Award; the change aims to acknowledge the efforts of a broader demographic in the business community. The Chamber’s 2021 Business Awards will be handed out on May 15 and broadcast on CHEK TV.
