The annual National Travel and Tourism Week luncheon was held Thursday in Lafayette.
Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser addressed the Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission and hospitality and tourism partners during the event. He provided an update on the positive steps in place to reinvigorate the tourism industry in the wake of the pandemic, next steps toward recovering, the true economic impact, and initiatives to improve tourism. It s just so important to continue to get the message out that tourism equals jobs and tourism is an economic driver, and unfortunately when the covid 19 pandemic hit almost overnight, the hospitality industry was the hardest hit and the fastest hit, said Ben Berthelot, Lafayette Convention, and Visitors Commission.

The Women of Wisdom memorial was dedicated today, and honors a special woman who contributed much to Lafayette.
The Women of Wisdom is an organization of activist women. The memorial was dedicated today at Holy Rosary Institute.
The Women of Vision Memorial recognizes the achievements and contributions of women who have made significant contributions to our community.
The first honoree is Kathy Marie Ball, a curator at the Lafayette Natural History Museum and leader in the museum field, who developed the Cultural Arts Series that brought performing, visual and literary artists to community centers.

Just this morning, we had a news report about a research piece from Market Dynamic Research Group in New Orleans that surveyed recent visitors to Louisiana. According to their findings, over half of them were inspired to visit by a movie or TV show. Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser told Louisiana Radio Network that this not only is good for the state in the form of jobs, it also equates to $2.5 billion in revenue. So, instead of taking our money out of state for some rest and relaxation, let s show our local attractions some love!

A Market Dynamic Research Group survey finds more than half of recent visitors to Louisiana say it was a movie or TV show featuring the Bayou State that inspired their trip. Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser said that translates to $2.5 billion in tourism revenue.
“And at a time when we’re trying to rebuild our tourism industry it’s great to have all these movies, TV shows, and films that have been produced, set here in Louisiana,” said Nungesser.
Nungesser said not only are productions a visual postcard of the state, but they also offer employment opportunities.
