Essanee Theater Receives Restoration Grant
Mayor Freddie DeCourt and the City of New Iberia have received a $50,000 National Park Service Grant by the Louisiana Office of Cultural Development for the restoration of the Essanee Theater.

NEW IBERIA, La. - Mayor Freddie DeCourt and the City of New Iberia have received a $50,000 National Park Service Grant (P19AP00425) by the Louisiana Office of Cultural Development for the restoration of the Essanee Theater (126 Iberia St., New Iberia).
Built in 1937, the Essanee Theater was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017 as a contributing resource to the Downtown New Iberia National Register Commercial Historic District (NRIS 100001710). The period of significance for the Downtown New Iberia Commercial Historic District was 1870 to 1967.

Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser accused New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell of having Lafayette Christian pop star Lauren Daigle booted from an ABC New Year’s Eve special, but a report by NOLA.com says Daigle was never in contention for the show.
Nungesser told LRN Tuesday that Cantrell opposed including Lafayette Christian pop star Lauren Daigle in the ABC program.
“She wrote the letter to Dick Clark and expressed that she did not want Lauren to be anywhere on their network that night, and I understand that they did not want the controversy,” said Nungesser.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell is once again making headlines related to her personal beef with Christian singer and Louisiana native Lauren Daigle. This time, apparently, she s attempting to get Dick Clark Productions to remove Daigle from their musical line up for the annual New Year s Rocking Eve event in the city.
In case you ve forgotten, Daigle performed at a Christian Music event in the French Quarter back on November 7th. According to reports, Cantrell was furious because the event went on without a permit.
