LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 13, 2021) – In an effort to raise awareness about nurses mental health and help curb the rate of nurse suicide, Governor Andy Beshear has declared May as Nurse Suicide Prevention Month in Kentucky.
University of Kentucky College of Nursing Dean Janie Heath joined Delanor Manson, president of the Kentucky Nurses Association (KNA), Donna Meador, CEO of KNA and other Kentucky nurse leaders who have advocated for increased nurse suicide awareness to announce the important prevention declaration during a virtual signing ceremony with Gov. Beshear on May 5. Nurses are known for providing exemplary care and compassion for their patients, but oftentimes they ignore prioritizing their own health and well-being, said Heath, who is also president of the Kentucky Nurses Action Coalition (KNAC). BALLARD COUNTY, Ky. (KFVS) - The vaccination rate in Ballard County is one of the lowest in the Commonwealth, according to Governor Andy Beshear.
During his daily report on Monday, May 3, the governor highlighted the top five and bottom five counties in Kentucky when it comes to COVID-19 vaccinations.
Officials say about 1,500, or 19 percent, of people in Ballard County has been vaccinated.
Statewide, about 41 percent of all Kentuckians have received the vaccine, with 1,833,652 receiving at least one dose.

Friday After Five is back this year, starting May 25, after last yearâs cancellation.
âIt was really exciting,â said Friday After Five executive director Francine Marseille. âMy phone started blowing up, everyoneâs thrilled.â
The ordinance says masks arenât required at outdoor events with a thousand people or less.

President Biden approved Kentucky’s disaster declaration over the weekend, two weeks after aid was requested by Governor Andy Beshear. Heavy rains over a three-day period at the end of February and beginning of March led to significant flooding along the Green, Kentucky, Licking, Ohio, Rolling Fork, and Mississippi rivers. Federal approval will move individual and household assistance requests forward for more than 23-hundred impacted homes in Breathitt, Clay, Estill, Floyd, Johnson, Lee, Magoffin, Martin, and Powell counties. John T. Ward Jr., Kentucky Derby-winning trainer and former Kentucky racing executive, has died at the age of 75. Ward is best known for saddling 2001 Kentucky Derby winner Monarchos, who also won the Grade 1 Florida Derby and was third in the G1 Belmont Stakes.
Ward s training career spanned 40 years until his retirement in 2012, at which time he had saddled 3,671 starters and 574 winners for earnings of over $23 million. Besides Monarchos, he was also the conditioner of graded stakes winners Sky Mesa, Booklet, Beautiful Pleasure, Snow Dance, Forest Secrets, Gal in a Ruckus, and Strong Contender among others.
