New Selma road project expected to reroute traffic for 16 months

Motorists who frequent Evans Road in Selma are going to have to find a different route come May 31, when the first phase of a 16-month reconstruction project begins.
Traffic from the Interstate 35 access road to Lookout Road will be closed for 10 months in Phase 1 of the $3,347,805 project. The second phase will close Evans from Lookout Road to the city limit at the Union Pacific rail line for another 5-6 months of construction.

Frances Thelma Raley, was a compassionate and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away peacefully on May 2, 2021 at age 94.
She was born to Francis Guy Hill and Myrtle Louise Thompson on June 10, 1926. Soon after graduating from Margaret Brent high school, Thelma met her husband, Harry C. Raley and married in 1946 at the Holy Face church. Together, they shared over 66 years of marriage and 5 children.
Thelma was happiest sharing in laughter with family, friends, and community. She drove school bus, 77E for 20 years where she touched the lives of many children with her kindness. She was passionate about baking and decorating cakes for many celebrations, and her incredible designs were sought after by many. Thelma and her husband, Harry, enjoyed many travels around the world together visiting family and creating lasting memories.
Demolition work has begun on a row of vacant houses on Lookout Road at New Lambton Heights, to make way for the missing link of the Inner City Bypass.
The 3.4-kilometre stretch will eventually connect Rankin Park to Jesmond, and is designed to improve traffic flow and access to John Hunter Hospital.
The demolition is expected to take around two months.
Authorities are urging motorists to use extra caution when driving on roads surrounding the project.
Terry Marie Meador, 66, of Mechanicsville, MD passed away on March 1, 2021 her home surrounded by her family. She was born on October 18, 1954, in Washington, DC to the late Francis Leroy Hill, Sr. and Ruth Elizabeth Robey. Terry felt blessed to raised in a family of fourteen children.
Terry married her forever love, Brian Keith Meador on October 6, 1998. The two of them were best friends and loving partners. Their love grew throughout the years.
