Bursa Malaysia ends lower on selling pressure 05 May 2021 / 18:37 H.
KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia contracted further at the close today, weighed down by selling pressure in heavyweight counters.
At 5pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) lost 12.58 points to 1,575.67 from yesterday’s close of 1,588.25.
The benchmark index opened 3.73 points higher at 1,591.98 and moved between 1,575.38 and 1,592.18 throughout the day.
Market breadth remained negative with losers trumping gainers 811 to 299, while 416 counters remained unchanged, 628 untraded and five others suspended.
Total volume fell to 7.37 billion shares worth RM4.24 billion from 7.48 billion shares worth RM4.13 billion on Tuesday.
A dealer said Asian markets were mixed today, as sentiments were dampened by the escalating Covid-19 cases.

The index opened 0.94 of-a-point better at 1,591.67 and moved between 1,587.87 and 1,597.42 throughout the day.
On the broader market, losers led gainers 529 versus 524, while 440 counters were unchanged, 659 untraded and six others suspended.

At 5pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) lost 2.48 points to 1,588.25 from Monday’s close of 1,590.73.
The index opened 0.94 of-a-point better at 1,591.67 and moved between 1,587.87 and 1,597.42 throughout the day.
On the broader market, losers led gainers 529 versus 524, while 440 counters were unchanged, 659 untraded and six others suspended.
Total volume rose to 7.48 billion shares worth RM4.13 billion from 6.68 billion shares worth RM4.26 billion on Monday.
A dealer said investors were taking profit off glove stocks, after a recent rally that was sparked by a resurgence of COVID-19 infections in global economies.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 4 Bursa Malaysia turned positive at mid-morning on renewed buying in selected heavyweight counters, led by Hartalega and Petronas Chemicals.
Hartalega’s shares rose by 22 sen to RM10.20 per unit, while Petronas Chemicals increased eight sen to RM8.25.
At 11.05 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 2.92 points to 1,593.65 from Monday’s close of 1,590.73.
The index opened 0.94 of-a-point better at 1,591.67.
