26th Amendment Anniversary Performance
50 years ago this Independence Day, a large musical group called America’s Youth in Concert performed Battle Hymn of the Republic in the White House. The group consisted of teenagers from across the U.S who also got to co-witness the signing of the 26th Amendment, lowering the voting age to 18.

Francie Gangie a former member of the America’s Youth in Concert’ was a attending high school in Eagle Butte when she tired out and was chosen to be on the tour.
Gangie says, “For me to find myself then in the White House or as it turned out really so many stops along the way, where it was infused with a pride of place to be an American to represent the flag, that was…it was just wonderful for me.”
