If you’re anything like me, no vacation is complete without our dogs. They’re members of our family and we take delight in seeing them out and about, traveling with us. If you think taking your dog along for the ride makes for a boring time with low-grade accommodations, think again! These are the top seven places that welcome your pup and provide top-notch fun, rest and relaxation.
1. Wanderlust in the wilderness
Remotely located in the Wallowa Mountains of Eastern Oregon, the Minam River Lodge welcomes dogs with a canister of high-quality dog food, pet bowls and a comfy pet bed in luxury cabins dotting the landscape. There are many trails to hike and outdoor activities to keep both canines and humans occupied. As there’s no access to Wi-Fi or technology and no in-room televisions, this is an opportunity to disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with nature and the beautiful animals that reside in the Eagle Cap Wilderness.
ENTERPRISE â The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will hold an informational meeting on Tuesday, July 13, to discuss the potential acquisition of a 15,000-acre property along the Minam River.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. on Zoom, and the public is invited to attend to ask questions and learn more about the project.
According to Bill Richardson â senior lands program manager for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, which is helping ODFW purchase the property â this acquisition has been three years in the making.
âItâs a primary migration corridor (and) thereâs a lot of connectivity for aquatic species along the river and streams. Itâs going to be a good addition to the current wildlife area,â Richardson said.
BAKER CITY â Due to the increasing fire danger, chain saw use is banned, and campfires, woodstoves and charcoal briquette fires are allowed only in campgrounds and other designated recreation sites on the Wallowa-Whitman, Umatilla and Malheur national forests, as well as in wilderness areas.
(The year-round ban on fires in parts of the Eagle Cap Wilderness remains in effect.)
Stoves and heaters that burn liquid or gas fuel are allowed.
All three forests have enacted Phase B of their public use restrictions.
Other restrictions include:
⢠Generators are allowed only when in the bed of a pickup truck or in an area that has been cleared of combustible material for a diameter of at least 10 feet.
