The Clayton Comets did what they needed to do in Week 7 of the spring football season, but now their playoff fate rests with a handful of other games across the state on Friday night.
Clayton traveled to West Johnston and overcame penalties and turnovers to claim a 26-7 win, securing second place in the Greater Neuse River Conference and firmly securing its spot on the playoff bubble with a 4-1 conference record.

Clayton, N.C. (6) Person traveled to (3) Clayton on Thursday night in the second round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3A volleyball state playoffs, and the Rockets went back to Roxboro with a ticket to the third round.
After a dominant first set, Person held off Clayton in the final two sets to claim a sweep, 25-18, 27-25, 25-22.
Clayton opened the first set with a 1-0 lead, but the Comets never led again in the set. Person went on a 14-6 run, which forced a Clayton timeout. Things didn t get better though. The Rockets went on a 7-1 run out of the timeout, extending their lead to 19-9.
