Melbourne on the brink as virus breaks out

  Restrictions are back in Victoria after a hotel quarantine worker who was part of the tennis program in Melbourne tested positive for COVID-19. In a late night press conference on Wednesday, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced the return of mask mandates and restrictions on gatherings. He said the infected worker was a 26-year-old man from Melbourne s Noble Park who was a resident support officer for the Australian Open quarantine program. He last worked at the Grand Hyatt Hotel on January 29 and returned a negative test after his shift. He subsequently developed symptoms and returned a positive test for COVID-19 on Wednesday.

Northern Territory forces Melburnians from 10 suburbs into 14 days quarantine, over 1100 in lockdown

The Northern Territory has enforced an immediate 14-day quarantine on visitors from any one of 10 Melbourne suburbs. Northern Territory officials gathered for an emergency response on Thursday afternoon after a 26 year old hotel worker within the Australian Open tennis quarantine system tested positive for the highly contagious UK strain of Coronavirus. Visitors from the following Melbourne suburbs must go into immediate lockdeown: Melbourne, West Melbourne, Noble Park, Keysborough, Springvale, Brighton, Brandon Park, Clayton South, Heatherton and Moorabbin. Anyone from Melbourne, West Melbourne, Noble Park, Keysborough, Springvale, Brighton, Brandon Park, Clayton South, Heatherton or Moorabbin has been ordered into 14 day lockdown in the Northern Territory

Please note Brandon Park has been removed as a hotspot and replaced by Wheelers Hill. This follows on from a male hall monitor working at a hotel quarantine facility testing positive to COVID-19. The man visited a number of locations across Melbourne before developing COVID-19 symptoms and getting tested. Victoria Health Authorities have implemented a number of public health controls to prevent any spread of COVID-19. Anyone travelling to the Northern Territory from a COVID-19 Hotspot must undertake 14 days of mandatory, supervised quarantine at the Alice Springs or Howard Springs quarantine facilities. Quarantine will be undertaken at the first urban centre you arrive at, including for transit.

Those people that were in the air travelling to the NT from a hotspot at the time it was declared, will have the option to return home or enter mandatory supervised quarantine at no cost.
