Dallas ISD is expanding an initiative called the Adjunct Teacher Dallas Residency Program to recruit more Latino male teachers.
DISD has around 150,000 students and about 70% population is made up of Hispanic/Latino students.

And so, the long, long term goal is for for our kids to obviously go to college and so that s why this is very important for us.

COPPERAS COVE, TX â Itâs been a year since students across Central Texas packed up their school supplies for spring break, not knowing if and when they would be able to come back due to COVID-19.
While transitioning to online learning for a few days, weeks or even months was hard for some students, it was tough on some educators as well.
In fact, virtual learning was something Charlotte Heinze never thought would happen in her 24 years of teaching.
âYou ve got to be able to adapt and change in life, period,â the marketing and business teacher at Copperas Cove ISD said. âI think that this was, I mean, not the way it went, but I think it was a great learning experience for us all.â

“It was the best thing ever walking through that bulldog. We had the music going,” said Baily, a student.
Rick Boggio, an academy coach at Romeo High School also said Monday felt like the first day of school.
“It is the first day that we have brought both groups of our students,” said Boggio.
The high school operates with a learning system called the Academies at Romeo in which students decide on an area of interest and attend micro-and macro-focused learning that gives real world experience in their area of interest.
Still in keeping with safety precautions, students, Logan Wenz and William Gilbert in the high school video production academy took on inside news gathering as they became our eyes, ears, and video production crew as their first day back assignment.
