The Garden City High School Hall of Fame Committee is now accepting nominations for the 2021 Hall of Fame inductees. Nominees must be graduates of Garden City High School. Other qualifications to be considered include professional accomplishments, community service and the capacity to be a positive role model for the 2021 graduating class.
Nomination forms are available in the main office of Garden City High School, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd. and at the Educational Support Center of Garden City Public Schools USD 457, 1205 N. Fleming St. The form is also available at the Garden City Public Schools website located at www.gckschools.com under the District section.
The Amarillo Independent School District’s Board of Trustees recently voted to further make progress on the district’s AmTech Career Academy. At its recent board meeting, the trustees voted to approve a contract with Navajo Office Products to purchase furniture for the facility.
According to previous reports by the Amarillo Globe-News, the district’s board approved the name of its career academy during a special meeting in late October, with it being an expansion of the Amarillo Area Center for Advanced Learning (AACAL) and will be located at 3601 Plains.
The board selected Tri-State General Contracting Group as the contractor for this project during the regular October meeting, with the contract for the project being approved to be $8,652,751. Overall, the project is expected to cost $9,748,590.

Garden City Public Schools USD 457 will be out for winter vacation Wednesday, Dec. 23, through Friday, Jan. 1, 2021. All district facilities, including the Educational Support Center, will be closed for the holiday break.
The Education Support Center will be closed the afternoon of Wednesday, Dec. 23, through Friday, Jan. 1, 2021. The center will be open with regular business hours on Monday, Jan. 4.
There will be a teacher inservice held on Monday, Jan. 4. School will be back in session for instruction for all students on Tuesday, Jan. 5.

Architect appointed for works at Joondalup schools
Programmed Facility Management (PFM) appointed to carry out works at Joondalup Primary School and Joondalup Education Support Centre
A total of $300,000 will be spent on upgrading access ramps and walkways at Joondalup Education Support Centre and Joondalup Primary School
In addition, $350,000 has been allocated for additional car bays at Joondalup Primary School
Construction works are expected to start in mid-2021
Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery has today announced that PFM will work on upgrades at both Joondalup Primary School and Joondalup Education Support Centre.
Joondalup Education Support Centre provides specialist education for just over 100 students with disability and special education needs.
During the year s last regular meeting of the Amarillo Independent School District Board of Trustees on Monday, members of the board and district officials looked forward, making plans on how COVID-19 could affect the district as a whole after the upcoming holiday break and throughout the spring semester.
As of Monday, the district is reporting a total of 1,956 COVID-19 cases, consisting of both staff and students since the first day of school Sept. 1. Out of the total, 1,246 are students and 710 are staff. The district’s fall semester officially ends Friday for the holiday break.
Amarillo ISD Superintendent Doug Loomis spoke about the difficulties the district has gone through during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, both in the spring and fall semesters of 2020.
