DHAKA, May 26 (Xinhua) The Bangladeshi government announced on Wednesday to extend the closure of the educational institutions till June 12 as the infection rate has risen substantially in parts of the country recently. We ve decided to keep schools and other educational institutions closed until June 12, Bangladesh s Education Minister Dipu Moni told journalists Wednesday.
Previously the closure was extended in phases till May 29.
She said the latest decision was taken considering the safety of students, teachers, institution employees and guardians in the backdrop of the rising infection rate in parts of the country bordering India.

The Primary and Mass Education Ministry today extended the closure of primary schools and kindergartens till May 29, as a preventive measure against further spread of coronavirus.
The decision was taken in consultation with the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19, said the statement.
Online education will continue during the closure while teachers-students and guardians will maintain the health safety guidelines, added the statement.
Earlier in the day, the Primary and Mass Education Ministry extended the closure of primary schools and kindergartens till May 29 while last night, the education ministry extended the closure of all secondary and higher secondary educational institutions till the same period.
In March, Education Minister Dipu Moni said that, in-person classes at secondary schools and colleges would resume after Eid on May 23.
Prior to these announcements, all schools and colleges were supposed to reopen on March 30.
