William. Peterson, M.A., LL.D., C.M.G., Principal of McGill University, is a native of the Scottish capital, where he was born in 1856. He has had a distinguished academic career. Educated at the Edinburgh High School and the University, of Edinburgh, he graduated in 1875 with high honors in classics. He subsequently studied at the University of Gottingen, and in 1876 won a scholarship at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. For two years he was Assistant Professor of Humanity at Edinburgh. Thereafter he held the position of Principal of University College, Dundee, until in May, 1895, he was chosen to succeed Sir J. W. Dawson at McGill.

Dr. Tyrrel de Langley, of London, Ontario, is the new President of the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO), the province’s regulatory and licensing body for Ontario’s 5,100 veterinarians.
“I look forward to the year ahead working with our Council in support of the College’s important mandate. Our Council is committed to managing the risks involved in the practice of veterinary medicine in Ontario and working to reduce any potential for harm to animals and to people,” said Dr. de Langley.

Operational costs at the State University of New York at Fredonia have gone up due to COVID-19.
During a semester “pretty much dominated by COVID,” State University of New York at Fredonia President Stephen Kolison reported a hefty price tag associated with the virus that topped $1 million.
“We saw a significant impact on students and staff,” Kolison told College Council earlier this month. “It also impacted student life and residential life … However, operational costs have gone up because of COVID, We had to spend a lot of money on protective equipment to keep things safe so that students can have a healthy place to come to school and people to work.”
