COLLEGE PARK, Md. The U.S. Army plans to cooperate in artificial intelligence research with teams led by the University of Maryland, College Park and in partnership with the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. The cooperative agreement brings together a collaborative of nearly 30 diverse experts in engineering, robotics, computer science, operations research, modeling and simulation, and cybersecurity.
With the Army s goal of seeking transformational advances in artificial intelligence and autonomy, Army and academic officials said this partnership will accelerate the development and deployment of safe, effective and resilient capabilities and technologies, from wearable devices to unmanned aircraft, that work intelligently and in cooperation with each other and with human actors across multiple environments.

In this talk, Dr. McGee will share insight into her research and first solo-authored book Black, Brown, Bruised, which brings together more than ten years of research on high-achieving, underrepresented racially minoritized (URM) students and faculty in STEM fields. Dr. McGee offers a deep appreciation of what it means to be a STEMer of color and academically successful in contexts where people of color are few and negative beliefs about their ability and motivation persist.

An analysis of social media conversations on World Press Freedom Day showed United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres was the biggest influencer, with his call to governments to support a free, independent and diverse media seen by over 3 million people.

Among news brands, The Washington Post, Forbes and AP had most impact on social media.
The Social Media Insights Lab at the University of South Carolina, US, studied the global conversation, where much attention focused on Myanmar and detained journalists. World Press Freedom Day was mentioned more than 350,000 times on social media.
