Maidstone United FC » Bill s Bulletin: naming names

I’ve always been wary when it comes to naming people. In my end of season notes, I tend to offer a blanket thank you because nine times out of ten, you miss one or two who then could take offence for being missed. I was recently asked by the KM to name my ‘Greatest Maidstone XI’. That was an interesting task. It was good fun to go back over 40 years, I must have bored Mrs Williams by recounting all my yesteryears – she’s probably heard all the stories several times before! It’s been interesting to read some of the comments on my selection. And it is just that, my selection. What you look for or see in a player can be polar opposite to someone like me. We’re all wine connoisseurs until we meet someone who actually is!

Maidstone United FC » Oliver Ash: We re in the middle of an extraordinary season

We’re in the middle of an extraordinary season. We haven’t experienced anything like this one before. All supporters, all players, management staff, community volunteers, office and academy staff and students, in fact everybody associated with the club, has had to adjust to a new football world. I write this on the second Saturday in a row when we haven’t had a fixture to enjoy. This time it’s not Dulwich’s floodlights collapsing onto their pitch and doing serious damage but a Covid outbreak in our own group of players and management staff. My first thought is with those infected. I hope they recover quickly with few effects and no lasting damage. I hope too they don’t spread the virus around. The squad should be back training by 16th December and have a small window in which to train again and prepare for FA Trophy games. Let’s hope the players can keep fit and come back roaring to play and we can make progress in the Trophy to make amends for our calamity in the FA
