More than a Mirage: Cal Bears Provide Real Community Support for Students in Coachella Valley
Being a new face in a big place can be overwhelming nearly all UC Berkeley students will tell you that. You try to find where you fit in, but nothing seems to fit quite right at first. Classes are challenging, you’re away from home for the first time it’s a lot to take in. Discouragement sets in and you might second guess your decision to be there. Then, maybe you meet someone from your hometown and they invite you over for dinner.
The Cal Alumni Association’s Cal Bears in the Desert Alumni Chapter started as a dinner during Homecoming and evolved into an organization serving students in the Coachella Valley. Since 2009, they have been guiding students from Coachella Valley, connecting them with resources on campus, and helping their families feel like part of the Cal community.

The Los Angeles Rams offense slipped the last couple of seasons under Sean McVay, particularly the passing game in 2020.
Without a deep threat and a quarterback who struggled off-script, the Rams offense finished 22nd in drive success rate last season and 22nd in points scored. After two years of sea-changing success in McVay s first two seasons, the Rams have struggled to live up to those expectations.
To reverse that trend, the Rams imported two key veterans: quarterback Matthew Stafford and wideout DeSean Jackson.
Joining NFL Network s
Good Morning Football on Thursday, Rams receiver Robert Woods said he s looking forward to what the quarterback with the big arm can bring to McVay s offense.

Arizona State (2-10)
Arizona State broke its losing streak against their in-state rival Arizona this last weekend, earning half of the Territorial Cup point for the team.
Sophomore Annika Larson had a solid weekend, reaching team highs in digs in both matches. She is second on the Pac-12 for total digs with 192, reaching double figures in all but two matches.
The duo of Marta Levinska and Iman Isanovic continue to impress on the pins. They have the two highest kill totals with 162 for Isanovic and 153 for Levinska, the only two on the team in triple digits. Notably, Levinska notched 16 kills on a .371 clip against the Wildcats.
