The Kentucky Folklife Program, in the Department of Folk Studies and Anthropology at WKU, has been awarded $20,000 by the National Endowment for the Arts to further its Kentucky Folklife Network magazine project and continue its efforts to work with community scholars and others involved in community-based documentation to share their cultural research statewide.
“It is an honor for the KFP to be recognized again by the NEA for our work helping to share the voices of Kentuckians from across the Commonwealth,” said Kentucky Folklife Program Director Brent Bjorkman. “Last year with funding from the NEA and the efforts of our KFP team, a Kentucky Folklife Network and digital platform were created, and so far we have produced two editions of the magazine. Portland Stage has been approved for a $20,000 Grants for Arts Projects award to support the Clauder Competition for New England Playwrights. Portland Stage’s project is among 1,073 projects across America totaling nearly $25 million that were selected during this first round of fiscal year 2021 funding in the Grants for Arts Projects funding category.
“The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support this project from Portland Stage,” said Arts Endowment Acting Chairman Ann Eilers. “Portland Stage is among the arts organizations across the country that have demonstrated creativity, excellence, and resilience during this very challenging year.”

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The Virginia Film Festival (VAFF) will receive a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to support the 2021 Virginia Film Festival.
VAFF is among 1,073 arts projects across America that were selected in the NEA’s Grants for Arts Projects funding category.
VAFF Director Jody Kielbasa says these funds will be used to help bring in more guest artist and speakers, and further expand the size and scope of the festival.

“We are thrilled to have the support of the National Endowment for the Arts, as we believe strongly that their support not only provides financial assistance but acts as a ‘Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval’ for our organization and the funded project, encouraging other grant-making organizations to contribute to our organization,” Chloe Cook, executive director of Sidewalk, said via a press release.
Ann Eilers, acting chairman of the NEA, lauded the Sidewalk organization’s efforts to survive and innovate during the coronavirus pandemic.
