Loves’ Loss is Levin’s Gain with New Furniture Deal Robert Levin strikes an arrangement to lease back five former Levin Furniture stores as Michigan-based Loves Furniture & Mattresses exits the Pittsburgh market. December 14, 2020 PHOTOS COURTESY LOVES FURNITURE Shortly after Loves Furniture & Mattresses announced last week that it would be exiting Pennsylvania to focus on its core market in Michigan, Levin Furniture revealed it would lease back the three Loves locations around Pittsburgh, as well as locations in Altoona and State College.  All five outlets originally were Levin retail stores and the new deal restores the furniture chain’s original thumbprint in western Pennsylvania. 

Levin Furniture is returning to Peters

A distinguished centenarian is returning to Peters Township. Levin Furniture & Mattress, a longtime staple along Washington Road, will be moving back into its former location. brothers, John and Matt Schultz, acquired the Levin stores out of bankruptcy.  Loves, which went into business only in March, hastily announced on Monday that it was leaving those five locations – all former Levin stores – to focus on its stores in Michigan, where the firm is based. Loves said in a news release that a local company would take over those stores, without identifying that firm. Enter the original owner. “This is an early Christmas gift for us, our employees and our customers,” said Robert Levin, chairman of the Westmoreland County-based furniture firm. “We’re thrilled to be back in the community, at a location that is convenient to customers.”

Community Foundation of St Clair County to contribute $350K to redevelopment of old Art Van building

The Community Foundation of St. Clair County has agreed to contribute $350,000 to a $13 million effort to redevelop the old Art Van building in downtown Port Huron. The project, now called the Wrigley Center, is being spearheaded by local developers Larry Jones and Brent Marshall. The goal is to transform the 48,600-square-foot space into 36 new residential condos, new retail outlets and public event space. The county purchased the property for $560,000 in 2014; three years earlier, it had been listed for $1.3 million. - Advertisement - “This is certainly a bit of a stretch for our foundation,” said Randa Jundi-Samman, the foundation’s board chair, in a Dec. 7 statement. “However, this is a crucial project for Port Huron and the region, and we want to support the work of the developers, the city, the county, the EDA and others who are driving the continued revitalization of our region.”
