Loves files for bankruptcy | News, Sports, Jobs

Jan 13, 2021 WARREN Loves Furniture, which in May acquired the former Levin Furniture stores in the Mahoning and Shenango valleys, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and the three area stores are going out of business. The stores in Niles, Boardman and Hermitage, Pa., are among 13 locations selling off their merchandise in a deal Loves struck with Connecticut-based Planned Furniture Promotions (PFP) in December. Michigan-based Loves, owned by US Assets Inc. in Dallas, purchased 27 former Levin Furniture, Art Van Furniture and Wolf Furniture stores from Art Van Furniture LLC with plans to rebrand them Loves Furniture, but quickly ran into financial trouble.

Loves Furniture points fingers over financial problems, bankruptcy

Loves Furniture points fingers over financial problems, bankruptcy In new documents filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Loves Furniture said warehousing and delivery problems led to bad customer experiences, canceled orders and ultimately the company s financial distress. Before the company s Jan. 6 Chapter 11 filing, Loves public statements mostly blamed its financial challenges on industry-wide supply disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic that left the company s stores with low inventory during a time of high consumer demand. Loves Furniture is the newly created company that took over many shuttered Art Van Furniture locations last summer in the wake of Art Van s surprise March 2020 liquidation bankruptcy. Loves started off with 34 stores in Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania and about 500 employees. It will soon be down to 13 stores, all but one in Michigan.

Loves Furniture Files Chapter 11 A Loves Furniture store in Toledo, OH (credit: Toledo Blade) Loves Furniture, a regional Michigan retail startup that went into business in 2020 just as the pandemic was emerging, has filed for bankruptcy protection as bills piled up and inventory, fulfillment and logistics issues hamstrung its operations. The company, a successor to Art Van Furniture, said it owes more than $10 million to vendors, while listing assets of $38.6 million. Loves said in its filing that inventory issues in particular caused problems with customers when items could not be located in a warehouse to ship to a store, leading to negative reviews on social media, canceled orders and refunds.
