James Hill Pittsburgh City-County Building lit for Pride Month Nearly nine months after Pittsburgh City Council voted to create its LGBTQIA+ Commission, Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto announced appointees to the group designed to address challenges facing LGBTQIA+ residents and visitors.
On Feb. 8, Peduto named the people chosen for the LGBTQIA+ Commission, who will be introduced to Pittsburgh City Council on Feb. 9. The city originally put out a call for applicants to join the Commission in July 2020. “This is a strong and impressive group, and will be extremely helpful in informing policies on LGBTQIA+ matters across city government,” says Peduto in a press release.
The marble monument was only temporarily unboxed Wednesday morning due to a judge’s order that it could be inspected by an expert for a legal team working to halt its removal.
Phoebe Hui selected to present the fifth Audemars Piguet Art Commission

.-Audemars Piguet Contemporary announced that Hong Kong-based multidisciplinary artist Phoebe Hui has been selected to realise the fifth Audemars Piguet Art Commission, in collaboration with Hong Kong-based independent curator Ying Kwok, who notably curated the Hong Kong Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017. The large-scale installation titled The Moon is Leaving Us is derived from historical and contemporary observations of the Moon and highlights the critical role that visual representation plays in science and in our understanding of the Universe. The Galesburg Public Art Commission is inviting kids 12 and under to come up with a name for a downtown mural. The mural is on the side of “The Box” art gallery on Kellogg Street, situated between the Orpheum Theatre and the Knox County Jail. The Art Commission’s Board President Carla Markwart says that any Knox County kid can submit a name idea. Name ideas have to be emailed to galesburgpublicart21@gmail.com by Feb. 10, with the winner being announced a few days later. Also, the winner will win a prize of $50 provided by a local donor, along with another $50 in art supplies for their school. Markwart suggests a drive by the mural or to look at photos on the Galesburg Public Art Commission’s Facebook page.
Art project or statement? Statue of pioneering Black Berkeley legislator briefly defaced
Someone put a white skeleton mask and some graffiti on the statue of William Byron Rumford on Sacramento Street.

Update, 1:35 p.m.: This may have been part of an art project. The URL on Rumford’s hand leads to this website with photos of other masks the artist appears to have placed on the statue. Berkeleyside has reached out to the artist for more information.
