(MENAFN - Gulf Times) The Ambulatory Care Center (ACC), part of the Hamad Medical Corporation s (HMC) group of hospitals located in Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City, recently expanded its intensive care unit (ICU) capacity to 10 rooms.
The unit provides critical medical and surgical care support for other hospitals located nearby, which ensures easer access for critical care patients.
Dr Khalid al-Jalham, director of the Ambulatory Care Center, explained that the ACC s location and set-up made it an ideal choice to enhance HMC s critical care capacity. Based on a critical needs assessment, a strategic decision was made to create a small ICU facility in our facility last July. This ensured there was capacity for the influx of critical care cases that had to be diverted from other facilities, several of which were designated as mainly Covid-19 facilities. Doha: Faculty members and staff of the College of Health and Life Sciences (CHLS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) recently welcomed prospective students at a Virtual Graduate Studies Information Session recently.
The event was open to the public and attracted participants from Qatar, across the region, and further afield.
Founding dean of CHLS, Dr. Edward Stuenkel and faculty members were on hand to present an in-depth overview of the research-intensive Master of Science and PhD programs in biomedical sciences, genomics, precision medicine, and exercise science offered by the college.
The session highlighted both the curriculum with its multidisciplinary learning approach and the pathways for students to participate in high-impact research in important, health-related fields once enrolled in a graduate program at CHLS.

An informative virtual graduate studies information session presented future students with details of the six graduate programmes offered by CIS, which cover contemporary and applied Islamic Studies including master s and PhD programmes in Islamic finance, applied ethics, Islamic architecture, and global affairs. Dr Remah Gharib, associate dean for student and academic affairs at CIS, and faculty members led the session, addressing aspects of the curriculum, multiple opportunities to work on critical research projects, and the overall student-centred experience at the college.
