“It s distressing to see the change in landscape. We don’t know what damage the mine will do to our sacred Doongmabulla Springs. That s why we re here to expose Adani s destruction of Country,” MacAvoy said.
The tour had previously stopped at a number of significant sites to the Wangan and Jagalingou people, and camped at “Dalgayu Dina”, the site on Adani’s pastoral lease where McAvoy and others have built a coroboree ground and campsite.
“Adani has in the past tried to evict us from our own land, and when we resisted that they tried to grant permission only to Wangan and Jagalingou people, he said.

Even if the Carmichael mine is certain to go ahead, it is still not too late for Australia to change course and abandon its destructive use of coal, Vinod Thomas and Chitranjali Tiwari write.
After all that Australia has been through from extreme effects of climate change, it is incomprehensible that the government has approved Indian conglomerate Adani’s $16.5 billion dollars Carmichael coal mine in Queensland. At capacity, the mine is expected to add a massive 55 million tonnes of coal a year to Australia’s total coal output.
This is bad news for health, the environment, and global warming. Global warming has dramatically raised the risk of the hot, dry weather associated with Australia’s bushfires by at least 30 per cent. Carbon emissions, the chief culprit in global warming, are now 36 billion tonnes a year worldwide, and nearly 40 per cent of that comes from coal.

Extinction Rebellion (XR) activists dumped fake coal outside Lloyd s of London s headquarters today in protest against the fossil fuel industry a day after the US committed to slashing greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030.
Eco-warriors unfurled banners with slogans including Climate Criminals , fossil fuels = death and insuring fossil fuels = ensuring climate breakdown as they dumped fake coal outside the building on Lime Street in the City.
City of London Police arrested two protesters after safety barriers were placed around the rubble and placards stuck in the mound which read we are the dead canaries and do not insure the West Cumbria coal mine .
Pablo Brait, campaigner from campaign group Market Forces, said: “With more and more insurers turning their backs, Adani has an obligation to explain to its shareholders and business partners how it will insure the risky Carmichael coal project for the decades it intends to run it.
“TMK’s promise means all 10 of the biggest Lloyd’s insurers are now committed to not insuring the disastrous Adani Carmichael coal project.
“Significantly, the wording of TMK’s statement implies it is an existing insurer, which, if true, would make this commitment a significant blow to Adani’s controversial plans.
“Now, Tokio Marine must urgently extend this commitment across its entire business and expand it to cover all fossil fuels. If it doesn’t, then it has not yet finished the job.
