This, as you may have noticed, is not a perfect world.
So perhaps it should be no surprise governments and private businesses have turned to bribery, aiming to lure in the tens of millions who still haven’t gotten the shot.
People are being offered doughnuts, beer, DoorDash delivery, sports tickets and yep cold hard cash. (Or e-gift cards, anyway, which are as good as greenbacks these days.)
That includes in California, where the state announced recently it’ll give away $116.5 million in taxpayer funds to vaccine recipients.
The eye-popping prizes, drawn at random by the California Lottery, are 10 of $1.5 million each and 30 at $50,000 apiece. But the other $100 million will go, less dramatically, to $50 gift cards for the first 2 million Californians who get vaccinated after the program’s May 27 launch.
