CALABASAS, CA The Alice C. Stelle Middle School in Calabasas was one of just 222 schools designated as a 2021 California Distinguished School. The district s youngest school was already given this prestigious distinction in 2009, just five years after it opened. In 2015, it was also designated a National Blue Ribbon School. We are very excited to have gotten this distinction, Principal Susana Baird told Patch. I think at the end of the day it shows the dedication and the hard work of the staff on a daily basis. We re not thinking of an award at the end of the day, we re thinking of what s best for our students, and this shows that.

Middle College High School in the West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) has been honored by the California Department of Education as a 2021 California Distinguished School. Per an announcement by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, honorees were selected based on performance and progress on state indicatorsâincluding test scores, suspension rates and conditions and climateâoutlined on the California School Dashboard, the stateâs accountability and continuous improvement system.
The high school, which is located on the campus of Contra Costa College in San Pablo, joins more than 221 middle and high schools in being recognized under the 2021 California Distinguished Schools Program.

FREMONT, CA State schools Superintendent Tony Thurmond named an additional 121 schools including 28 in the greater Bay Area as 2021 California Distinguished Schools including John F. Kennedy High School in Fremont. The award honors schools who have made improvements in test scores, suspension rates, and conditions and climate. The state originally honored 102 schools March 18, but after further review of the data added the additional schools. Our thanks go to the entire communities surrounding these schools, including the teachers, administrators, and classified employees as well as the students and their families who, through teamwork, all accomplished this impressive achievement together, Thurmond said in a statement released Tuesday by the California Department of Education.
