California City shaken, in search of answers one week after two toddlers go missing

Fear and mystery surround the disappearance of two toddlers from their home in California City less than 70 miles east of Bakersfield. “It’s always bad when someone goes missing. We realize the longer it goes, the harder it becomes.” Longtime Cal City resident Carolinda Fleming said the whole thing makes no sense. “There are no answers, she said. All we have are a lot of questions to two children wandering away.” The two boys, Orson West, 3, and Orrin West, 4, went missing Dec. 21 at about 5:45 p.m. from their home at 10717 Aspen Ave., according to a news alert from the California City Police Department.

Former BPD Lt. weighs in on missing California City boys case, gives insight into investigation and last updated 2020-12-29 12:31:46-05 CALIFORNIA CITY, Calif. — In any missing person s case, authorities often highlight the importance of the first 48 to 72 hours of an investigation. Within that time frame, investigators have the best chance to generate leads, preserve evidence and obtain accurate information. According to former Bakersfield Police Department Lieutenant Gary Carruesco, the chances of a successful outcome begin to fade past that period and for missing children, that timeline moves even faster. Three-year-old Orson West and 4-year-old Orrin West have been missing since Dec. 21, according to what their adoptive parents told the California City Police Department.
