San Diego police are investigating the death of a patient who shattered a fifth-floor window at Kaiser Permanente Zion Medical Center in Grantville late Tuesday night.
In a short statement, Kaiser confirmed the incident but declined to explain the surrounding circumstances.
“While we cannot disclose details of the event due to privacy regulations, we continue to provide our full cooperation to the San Diego Police Department in their investigation and defer to them for further comment,” the Kaiser statement said, also indicating that it reported the situation to the California Department of Public health.
The organization did not provide additional information on what part of the hospital is on Zion’s fifth floor. A person who works there said, on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media, that the unit houses “telemetry” patients with conditions severe enough to require electronic vital sign monitoring.
